Film industry meeting - 21/9/10
Last night saw the first of our film industry seminars, with three fantastic guest speakers volunteering their time to come and talk with the www!ers. With fascinating stories from different sides of the industry, the www!ers soaked up the advice and stories of the speakers.
Tom Linay – Development Producer
Tom currently works with Ed developing his next feature film, and has previously worked as Directors Assistant to Ricky Gervais and Matthew Robinson during post-production on The Invention of Lying. In his spare time he produces short films and has plans to make his own feature.
Ed Blum – Director/Producer
Bafta nominated Ed has already had one film in the cinemas in 2006, ‘Scenes of a Sexual Nature’, a film following seven relationships on Hampstead Heath starring Ewan McGregor, Tom Hardy, Adrian Lester and Catherine Tate amongst many others. Ed is currently developing a new independent feature film, ‘The Laughter Clinic’, due to shoot in America next year
Havana Marking – Director/Producer and journalist
Winning two awards at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival and nominated for the Grand Jury Prize, Havana’s most recent documentary ‘Afghan Star’ offers a fascinating look at how contestants in Afghanistan’s Pop Idol risked their lives to appear on the show. With a background in making hard-hitting documentaries, Havana has a natural curiosity about people and wants to bring their stories to the big screen.
Thanks so much to Tom, Ed and Havana for taking the time to talk so passionately about their work to the www!ers.
